After long consideration and encouragement, Yummy Goodness is now expanding and introducing a DIY section. As my daughters Lexie and Maddie say, mommy you should show people how to do these things because not everyone knows. So, no better way to kick off the DIY section than to start with some spring cleaning and OCD organizing.
Welcome Spring- as my front door wreath states! If you want to copy my wreath just head over to Hobby Lobby and purchase the wreath and sign and combine them together, make sure to get a coupon for half-off online.
Now back to mission DIY Spring organization, since we got back from Mexico I wanted to reorganize my pantry because frankly it was a hot mess. I could never find anything in there and the dogs would go in the pantry and knock things off the shelves with their tail, so I knew I needed a clean, spill proof pantry that would inspire the foodie in me daily. To accomplish mission pantry organization, I headed to the Dollar Tree closest to my house and found a variety of containers which included soda containers for my canned goods, and stackable options. I knew I couldn’t pick just any color because I painted my pantry a beautiful happy yellow, so I opted for orange, red, clear, and white containers. With thirty-six dollars I got my containers and started clearing everything out of the pantry. Then I thought about how to separate everything, and with my analytic brain it resulted in several options and variations but ultimately, I categorized things into foodie functionality. Since I develop recipes daily it’s important for me to have containers that I could pull out quickly and have like items together. So,
for my pantry I separated the containers into the following categories: chile pods; cacao, chocolates, cocoa powders; baking ingredients; sugars; middle eastern spices; spices; legumes; dried berries; flours; marshmallows; ethnic sauces; teas; pastas; vinegars & oils; nuts & seeds; rice; kid stash; hibiscus, rose buds; potatoes; and Ziploc bags- just so you get the idea. If you reorganize your pantry I highly recommend grouping things into functionality and like items to help, make your life a breeze. I used a combination of stackable containers and soda containers for canned goods and grouped like canned goods together. To top off the pantry I decided to put our wine corks to use and made a cute PANTRY sign with the help of my niece and a hot glue gun. The last thing was to create simple labels for each container and I simply found a cute font that I liked and typed up the labels, glued them to a colorful cardstock, wave cut them with my daughter’s crafty scissors, and taped them on and Voila!
My best tips for mission pantry organization is to measure the size of your pantry and shelves, determine how many containers are needed, head over to the dollar tree and get a combination of containers in a color you like. If there isn’t a color you like, you can purchase spray paint and spray paint the containers with a color of your choice. Then clean out, categorize, label, and organize your pantry. You never know what you will find at the dollar store.
